Halloween is definitely a fun holiday! Costumes, parties and trick or treating! There is an abundance of candy everywhere you look. There is probably a bowl in your house that is for the trick or treaters, but it may seem like you might be treating yourself more to these indulgences meant for others.

What do I do? I buy my Halloween candy the day of Halloween saving me thousands of pointless, irresistible and tempting empty calories. To the last of the trick or treaters to my house, I bestow upon them the rest and last of the candy for the evening. I have tried to give the rest to organizations that give to the less fortunate, but it always seems I eat it all before I can get it to them. That is when I decided to give the rest of it to the stragglers on Hallows Eve.

For 3 of my favorite Fun Size candy bars: Snickers, Butterfinger and Almond Joy I would have to do about 45 minutes of dance aerobics (Zumba) to burn the calories form those tiny Fun Size bars!!! No thanks! Here is a list of some Halloween treats that are tricks for gaining weight! Stay safe this Halloween and stay smart…keep the temptation out of your house!

Here is a recipe for Skinny Halloween Protein (black bean) Brownies. Plan ahead and make these to substitute for the other high, empty calorie treats that will be at the party. (Recipe from eatyourselfskinny.com)

INGREDIENTS

1 (15 oz) can black beans, no salt added, drained and rinsed
3 eggs
3 Tbsp plain Greek yogurt
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 cup coconut sugar (or other sweetener of your choice)
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking powder
Pinch of salt
1/4 cup chocolate chips
White chocolate drizzle (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a food processor, pulse beans until mashed then add eggs, yogurt, cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla, baking powder and salt, processing until smooth.
Mix in chocolate chips and pour brownie mix into a greased skillet or 8×8 baking pan. Bake brownies for 30 to 35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
To make the spider web: after your brownie has cooled, cut a small slit at the tip of a plastic baggy or piping bag and add melted white chocolate. Slowly pipe lines onto the brownie and allow chocolate to set.
Serve and enjoy!
