Surgical Weight Loss Expectation – Los Angeles

Description

Los Angeles and Orange County patients who undergo surgical weight loss at our practice can expect different time frames for different procedures. For gastric bypass patients, peak weight loss is about a year and a half after the operation. For LAP-BAND® surgery patients, the peak weight loss occurs about three years after the surgery is performed.

The timeframe for the weight loss is different from the gastric bypass and the LAP-BAND. With the gastric bypass, the peak weight loss usually is about a year and a half after the operation. At that point, you should expect to lose somewhere between 50-80% of your excess weight. So for example, if you are supposed to weigh 100 pounds and weigh 200 pounds, you could expect to lose between 50-80 pounds in about a year and a half after the operation. With LAP-BAND that process is little bit slower, typically the peak weight loss is somewhere around three years after the operation to lose that amount of weight, but when you get further out about five or six years out, the weight loss typically is more comfortable to both operations.
