Description
Dr. Chin describes what patients can expect after undergone bariatric surgery, including gastric bypass and LAP-BAND® surgery at our Orange County practice. After your gastric bypass surgery, you'll stay in the hospital for about two days so that we can monitor your recovery. For LAP-BAND® surgery, you may be able to go home the same day of the operation or you may chose to stay overnight at the hospital.

With the gastric bypass operation, typically the hospital stay is about two days in the hospital, so for example if your operation is on a Monday, most patients are able to go home on Wednesday. With the LAP-BAND, it’s a shorter type of stay, typically is an overnight stay, but we are moving slowly but surely towards the outpatient type of procedure where patients may be able to go home even the same day of the operation. Once you get home, for the most part we typically recommend that for at least the first couple of weeks you take a relatively easy, you should walk, even walk up and down the stairs and things like that, but nothing real strenuous. After about two weeks, you should be able to get back to work if you work at a desk or are able to have sort of modified work duties, and then most patients are able to have a full recovery to their normal activities by about four and six weeks.
