There are a number of steps to take before undergoing surgical weight loss surgery at our Los Angeles and Orange County office. Our patients are required to attend a support group meeting and change their diet before getting started on achieving their weight loss goals.

Psychologically there is a lot a patient can do to get prepared for surgery. Most of the time we are going to request that you try to lose 10 to 15 pounds before surgery because that makes surgery a little safer, it shrinks the liver and it also helps the patient get into the mindset of where they are going to be after surgery having to be on a liquid diet. Also to prepare for surgery, I suggest we require patients go to a support group, but I suggest that you make it part of your regimen before surgery that you try to attend. We have 10 support groups a month and they are offered at various times and locations that also really helps prepare them for surgery, speaking to the psychologist, speaking to other patients. When you can talk to people who have gone through and they can tell you little tips on what helped them and what worked especially when they were on the liquid diet or when they were feeling a little bit low. Those things really help. The more educated the patient is the more prepared they are, the better they are going to do for surgery.
