Gastric Bypass and LAP-BAND® Surgeon Mir B. Ali, M.D.

Dr. Mir B. Ali joined the Lite & Smart DIMENSIONS™ surgical team in 2000 as a gastric bypass and LAP-BAND® System surgeon serving patients from Los Angeles and Orange County. Dr. Ali takes pride in helping his patients transform their lives both physically and emotionally.

I grew up in Southern California, went to UCLA for my undergraduate degree, then to Hahnemann University in Philadelphia for my medical school degree. I was in the Navy and did my residency through the Navy at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland. After completing my obligation to the Navy as a general surgeon and I was stationed in Italy for two years doing that. I joined the group here. I am board certified in general surgery as well as a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery. What I like about the surgery is I see a big transformation in patients and it’s not just a physical transformation, but they seem to open all kinds of new doors for the patients by not just because losing their weight, but they change their body image, they change way they feel about themselves. Their main focus is not food anymore and they really grow into a different person and are able to do and experience a lot of things they were unable to do before the surgery, and that is really gratifying to see that transformation and not just a physical change in them, but the whole emotional and spiritual change that they get from having had bariatric surgery.
