What is OPTIFAST®?
OPTIFAST® is a comprehensive weight loss program that includes counseling, nutritional education, peer support, and meal replacement products to help you lose weight. By following a diet of low-calorie meal replacement shakes, calorie consumption drops drastically, allowing for rapid weight loss during the course of the program.
Meal Replacement Products and Diet
The meal replacement products are pre-portioned, calorie-controlled, and easy to prepare; they provide complete nutrition and freedom from making choices about what to eat. Patients usually adjust to their new diet within a week or so – hunger tapers off and energy levels rise.
Once you have met, or are close to meeting, your “goal weight” on the OPTIFAST® program, you will transition from the meal replacement products to regular food (mainly, nutrition-rich fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat protein). By this time you will have participated in nutritional and behavioral counseling to help you make smart, healthy choices when it comes to food preparation and mealtime.

Counseling and Support
Another important component of the OPTIFAST® program is group and one-on-one counseling and support. OPTIFAST® participants also attend weekly group sessions, where they can seek the support of peers who are currently on OPTIFAST® or have successfully completed the program.
