LAP-BAND® surgery, a popular laparoscopic weight loss procedure, is extremely safe and effective; however, no operation comes without some risk. These risks can be greatly mitigated though when LAP-BAND® surgery is performed by a qualified and experienced bariatric surgeon like Dr. Peter LePort, founder of Lite & Smart DIMENSIONS™. To learn more about LAP-BAND® risks, contact our Orange County obesity surgery practice to schedule a private consultation.
As previously noted, any operation will carry some degree of risk. These risks are reduced when the procedure is performed by a qualified professional who takes all precautions and adheres to the surgical standard of care. One of the risks that LAP-BAND® candidates should be aware of is that of gastric perforation, or a tear in the stomach wall, either during or after the procedure. Also, all laparoscopic procedures carry some risk of organ damage, particularly to the stomach, spleen, or liver. Please note that the risk of these complications is minimal.
There is a slight risk of post-operative complications, including your LAP-BAND® slipping out of place, eroding into the stomach, or becoming damaged and leaking saline fluid, causing it to deflate. Some LAP-BAND® patients’ stomachs may stretch or enlarge over time.
If you have questions about the LAP-BAND® System and its risks, please contact Orange County bariatric surgeon Peter LePort and his team at Lite & Smart DIMENSIONS™ today.
