Performed Laparoscopically
During LAP-BAND® laparoscopic surgery, our bariatric surgeon makes tiny incisions through which small surgical instruments are inserted to place the band. Procedures performed laparoscopically are beneficial for several reasons; for example, the recovery rate is faster and risk of complications is reduced. Please note that laparoscopic surgery is not for everyone; we may recommend traditional “open” gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery for extremely obese patients.

No Cuts or Staples
The LAP-BAND® system is a medical device that reduces the capacity of the stomach without cutting or stapling. This controls the amount of food the stomach can hold - thereby reducing your caloric consumption and leading to significant, long-term weight loss - without having to reduce its size through irreversible procedures.
Avoids Re-routing of the Intestines
Unlike gastric bypass surgery, the placement of the LAP-BAND® does not involve making any changes to the digestive tract or intestines. This avoids the possibility of complications such as dumping syndrome, which can occur when food passes too quickly from the stomach to the intestines.
Adjustable and Reversible
The LAP-BAND® device is adjustable, meaning your bariatric surgeon can loosen or tighten the band to allow for consumption of more or less food. If you find that your weight loss has reached a plateau, our surgeons can tighten the band, restricting the amount of food your stomach can hold. If you’re losing weight too quickly, we can loosen the band, increasing the amount of food your stomach can hold. One of the biggest advantages of the LAP-BAND® system over other surgical weight loss treatments is that it is fully reversible.
