Memorial Care Center for Obesity is now offering a six week yoga course specifically designed for patients who have had bariatric surgery!
The class will include breathing, stretching and meditation techniques and is focused on the bariatric patient’s needs and pace. All levels of fitness are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Remember, weight loss surgery is just one of the tools necessary to become a success. Life style changes and new coping skills are also necessary. Please take advantage of this opportunity to improve both health and well being!

Some very exciting statistics came across my desk recently about a study done on the resolution of co-morbidities in gastric bypass surgery patients.
Co-morbidities are health conditions that are caused or made worse by a patient’s excess weight.
The study quoted a resolution of Type II Diabetes in 83.8% of the patients- often within days of the surgery.
High blood pressure was improved in 75.4% of patients. High cholesterol was improved in 95% of the patients.
Depression was improved in 47% of the patients.

The gastric sleeve procedure is now available to our patients in Los Angeles, Riverside and Orange County!!
Many patients are interested in having the gastric sleeve operation because it is not as invasive as the gastric bypass surgery, and is more effective for weight loss than the adjustable gastric band.
Gastric sleeve or vertical sleeve gastrectomy is performed by creating a long tubular pouch in the stomach,about the shape of a banana. There is no rerouting of the intestines and food travels through the digestive system in the usual manner.
Sleeve gastrectomy is also a good option for patients who have a very high BMI,or their comorbids are too serious to undergo gastric bypass surgery.

I am pleased to announce that there are two websites available for support for our patients who have had bariatric surgery. The websites are www.lapband.com and www.realizemysuccess.com.
Although we offer 10 support groups a month in a variety of four different locations, many people do not have time, or do not live close enough to participate regularly at the support groups. Now our patients all over Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles, and Ventura counties can go on line for support at any time. The website, www.realizemysuccess.com offers support for both gastric bypass and adjustable banding patients. The website www.lapband.com offers support for patients who have had adjustable gastric banding. Please take advantage of these tools available for surgical weight loss patients!
